At Sea

May 6th, 2008

Hey All,

Played a really cool show Friday Night in Portland. I was playing guitar for ‘the battle of land and sea’ and we supported a really sweet band called Vetiver.
the guys in the band were really friendly and as Sarah pointed out there was a quality of “the Band” to their songs. you should check them out if you can www.myspace.com/vetiverse

Getting ready to head over to the uk next week. there’s always so much to do before these trips. We are also booking our own tour around the east coast and the west coast of America. I will be posting dates on my page for the tour soon. I’ve been playing everyday in my music room at home and trying out different songs, different ways of approaching older songs and just trying to continue to move forward as an artist.

It’s easy to become focused on building a career and while i know its important to make a living, the bottom line is I always want my music to be the main focus whether or not I’ve “made it” or not. I was just talking with a friend about how important it is to cultivate loving situations and I think this really applies to building a career. I’ve always wanted to travel the world playing music, making records and doing something positive with my life. not settling. when you stick your neck out to do that there’s plenty of folks who will support that and plenty that just don’t give a fuck and thats fine. but I really want to be conscious about making sure what I’m doing with my time feels good, artful, fulfilling and not clouded by commercial self-consciousness. I guess it’s about finding the people out there that respond to my approach.
I’m certainly not banging down the doors of the mainstream, but i do feel my songs have a longevity about them and with the right
situation could find their way into the ears of musically discriminating folks.
it can be a bit hard to stay afloat when you haven’t quite reached the harbor
or maybe I haven’t even left yet?
bon voyage,
jacob
